Question:

What is a T Series Mold Base?

Answer:

T Series Mold Bases, sometimes referred to as 3-plate molds, defer from our other Mold Bases as follows:

The A half (Cavity) consists of three plates

  • Top Clamp plate
  • X plate (also X-1 plate)
  • A plate

Leader pins are installed into the Top Clamp plate, typically ranging from being 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 thick.

Leader pin bushings are installed into the X and A plates.  X plates typically being 7/8 thick (but can be any specified size) and the A plate thickness ranges by customer requirements.

The B half (Core) is exactly similar to an A Series Mold Base B half

  • B plate
  • Support plate
  • Ejector Retainer plate
  • Ejector plate
  • Rails (risers or C dimension)
  • Bottom Clamp plate

The only difference with this portion of the T Series Mold Base is that more often than not you may require Leader pin clearance in the rails to accommodate the Mold action of the stripper plates.

T Series Mold Bases ship within 3-5 work days, depending on size.

Question:

What is a Pre-Pocketed Mold Base?

Answer:

Pre-Pocketed Mold Bases are similar to A Series Mold Bases with two exceptions:

  1. Each Pre-Pocketed Mold Base has a through pocket in both the A and B plates
  2. (4) TL-125 Top locks are installed in the A and B plates on center

We currently offer five different Pre-Pocketed Mold base sizes: 88, 108, 1012, 1212 and 1215

A and B plate thicknesses range from 1-3/8 to 2-3/8.

Additional Pre-Pocketed Mold Base and pocket details can be located here and here.

The greatest aspect of our Pre-Pocketed Mold Bases though would be their availability.  Each variation is stocked on our shelves to reduce lead-times and cost.  If you need a Mold Base to ship right away, PCS has the answer waiting for your call.

Question:

I’m going to need an Insulator Sheet for a project I’m working on.  I understand PCS sells Insulator sheet material, but it is possible to add the counter sinks I will need for screws to it if I include the machining details within my Mold Base CAD file that I plan on sending in for quote?

Answer:

Not only does PCS offer standard sizes that correspond to our Mold Base product line, we can also quote any size, thickness and added details you may need for your project.  PCS typically ships special insulator sheets with the mold base if it is special, you can also order separate for pre-existing molds.  Standard insulator sheets ship typically within 1-3 days after order placement.
